Les Mosses, 5 February 2005

5th February 2005

We left the house heading for Ovronnaz but there was a traffic jam at Vevey due to an accident and half of Europe seemed to be driving up the Valais. We pulled off and popped in Stöckli to look at some new goggles for both of us, strangely we both liked the same pair but they’d only the one pair in stock.

Stöckli were doing a ski test up at Les Mosses so we decided to go there. Les Mosses is up in the Alpes Vaudoises near Leysin on the Col des Mosses and not far from Château-d’Oex.

The ski test was interesting, I’ve never skied on them before and wanted to for ages, Julie tried some race-carves which seem to be her sort of thing and enjoyed them. I tried the Slalom carves and thought they were great as well, like the Dynstars Omecarves or Salomon 3V’s for precision and grip but not quite as brutal. I then tried the Cross Pro which was hopeless, it’s presumably good for something or someone, I couldn’t find the something and clearly wasn’t the someone, they never quite managed to spill me onto the piste but it was a closely fought battle.

Snow was great and although I’ve skied at Les Mosses before I wasn’t impressed today. Although it wasn’t too busy no one I saw could ski to save their life which just made things painful. I can’t recall a time when I’ve had so many people ski into me or wipe out a few cm in front of me, to cap it all a boarder hurtled into me on the run back to the car park.

Although I did have my camera I forgot to take any photographs so I borrowed the one above from the tourist office.
