2005 11 27 - Lenk

27th November 2005

Lenk were opening a couple of slopes today so we’d planned to go there, they do a deal for Gstaad season pass holders offering a day ticket for only 10 chf.

The piste was packed snow but providing you kept on the edges pretty good to ski. Of course it’s still pretty cold so they’re blowing snow as much as they can:

Lunch was amusing, a small restaurant had Goulash Soup with bread on the menu which sounds fairly normal, but the soup actually came in a large hollowed out piece of bread:

I’ve never seen this before, clearly some white sliced wouldn’t have been up to the job though Very Happy

2005 11 26 - Gstaad, Real Snow, Real Skiing, Real Skiers, 6mths to go

26th November 2005

I’m embarrased to say despite it being local and being a season pass holder I had no idea there was going to be some lifts running for skiing today Embarassed

I’ve been glancing at the webcam and seeing some good snow on the Hornberg (1800m) and seeing cannons running down to Saanenmöser (1269m) and I’ve been thinking it looked nice, but this morning I looked at the streaming webcam and saw lifts going by. When I checked I found they were running lifts up to the Hornberg and had open runs down to Saanenmöser.

This clearly beats a glacier any day of the week so we went …..

There’s clearly not a lot of depth to the snow but it was really quite excellent, it’s just high alpine meadow so there’s no rocks to speak of and it doesn’t take much snow to cover it at all. In fact the open skiing was in this area (photo from October 8th 2005):

But, today it was more like this :
