2005 11 26 - Gstaad, Real Snow, Real Skiing, Real Skiers, 6mths to go

26th November 2005

I’m embarrased to say despite it being local and being a season pass holder I had no idea there was going to be some lifts running for skiing today Embarassed

I’ve been glancing at the webcam and seeing some good snow on the Hornberg (1800m) and seeing cannons running down to Saanenmöser (1269m) and I’ve been thinking it looked nice, but this morning I looked at the streaming webcam and saw lifts going by. There’s clearly not a lot of depth to the snow but it was really quite excellent, it’s just high alpine meadow so there’s no rocks to speak of and it doesn’t take much snow to cover it at all. In fact the open skiing was in this area (photo from October 8th 2005):

However, we got day tickets for 10 francs each courtesy of “Blick” a Swiss-German newspaper who were running a promotion, as the paper is only 3 francs a copy we effectively got tickets for 13 francs each and they gave us a couple of bars of chocolate each and a new lift pass stringy thing.
