2005 12 04 - Gstaad - Saanenmöser, Hit and Run
4th December 2005

Not quite as nice a day as yesterday and the temperatures are on the way up slightly, around 2′c in the car park at Sannemöser but still around freezing at the top.
But the snow’s as good last week really and has benefited from some fresh snowfall along with the canon snow earlier in the week when the temperature was lower.

Hit and Run ? I was skiing with moderate speed just on the left side of that pylon when a mixed group of boarders and skiers came down, I’d seen them earlier and they were traveling too quick. One of them cut across me, ran his board over the front of my skis at which point the inevitable happened and I was somersaulting down a hard packed piste. Incredibly it was a pretty clean fall and my skis kept across the slope so there was no levering injury to my legs, but it was pretty nasty, the speed was pretty high and surface was hard, luckily I was armoured up and didn’t get hurt. In fact I didn’t even lose my ski which allowed me to ski after the idiot who tried to pretend he wasn’t aware what he’d done, this can’t have been true, we contacted and the only reason he’d not know I was somersaulted down the slope would be because he was too stupid and inconsiderate to check. There’s also no way his equally stupid friends couldn’t have been aware of what happened.
The lesson being, wear a helmet at least and maybe other padding and don’t forget you’re sharing the slopes with total idiots at all times of the season.
