2005 12 31 – Gstaad

31st December 2005

The roads to Gstaad were awful today, rutted ice, packed snow, slush and some melt water on the surface. It snowed heavily overnight but the temperature’s risen a little and the snow was mixed with some rain lower down. Some of the fresh snow at the top was a little heavy in places I thought as well.

These shots are taken round on the St Stephan side of the Saanenmöser area, the skiing round there is pretty good and has been much improved with the replacement of the two drag lifts with a new 4-man fast chair.

There’s a couple more images in the gallery.

At around 2pm the weather changed a bit and it started to rain at the bottom turning to snow at around the mid-station. Hopefully the freezing level will drop a little more.

Today was also the day my faithful Hestra gloves finally died, I noticed a small gash on the thumb yesterday and by today it’d gone through the inner and the liner as well. I think this is the 4th or 5th season I’ve had them so although they cost more than any pair of gloves I’ve ever had they’ve also proved to be the cheapest so I’ll be replacing them with the same again, the “Army Leather XCR Glove“.
