I was going to go somewhere else, but the sun was out, we’ve got some fresh snow, I’ve got a season pass and even in February it’s not busy so I just went to Gstaad as usual

For a change we parked round at St Stephan, mostly because I’d had Stöckli service my skis and after picking them up we were on the Zweisimmen side of Gstaad, my experience is that it’s impossible to park at Zweisimmen though. The car park at St Stephan is fun though, it’s at the end of a track where the icy ruts are 10 or 20cm deep and it’s really a field that hasn’t been cleared of snow.

Today was the first time I’ve been Schwarzsee this season. There’s only 22km of pistes but it’s all open right now and conditions aren’t bad at all.

More of the same at Gstaad, it’s pretty quiet with no queues or crowds even though we’re heading into peak holiday time.
That shot was taken around 16:45 at the top of the hill, I’d just grabbed the last lift and was able to blast down empty slopes back to the car park.
