We’ve had loads of snow overnight so the roads were going to be difficult and it looked best to leave a little later allowing the snow-ploughs to do their work and then head for the closest station which is Moléson.

It was pretty quiet when I arrived, the relatively poor weather keeps people at home so the car park was empty. I’m still skiing on the Stormriders on test from Stöckli while they repair my lasers. The Stormriders come into their own on days like today, there’s been some wet heavy snow topped with a lot of powder, the partially prepared pistes vary between corduroy and chopped/mixed powder and wet snow; the Stormriders just eat this up.

There’s some great skiing in the trees from the top of the funicular down to the base station crossing under the actual rails a few times.

The weather was pretty good really, by the end of the day the visibility was best which gives a little added energy to tired muscles on the the last couple of lines
Driving home it broke into sunshine and just looked great.

We’d been heading for Château-d’Oex but when we got there they’d shut the lifts due to the high wind so we carried on or Saanen.

The snow’s pretty reasonable at the top but it’s raining at the bottom so much of the way down is just hacking through heavy snow, OK on the steeper sections but hard work if it flattens slighty.
Not the best of days which is why I think the car park was empty

I think some places have been struggling with the high winds today but it was pretty unaffected at Gstaad, the link to St Stephan was closed but I’m not really clear if that was due to Avalanche risk or wind.
It’s a good job it’s not busy right now, a lot of the car park hadn’t been dug out when I arrived. There’s been a lot of snow this week as well, the temperature’s slightly higher than mid-week so the snow’s good but not as good as a couple of days ago.

It’s been a great day, we’re in the middle of one of the major snowfalls of the season I think. The roads were a bit difficult today so although we were headed to Gstaad we stopped at Château-d’Oex and it turned out to be fantastic.

Although it was snowing pretty heavy in the morning we had a few hours this afternoon that were just brilliant with some broken sunshine and just amazing snow. All in all, a great day and this first day we’ve skied Château-d’Oex this season.
