This is a popular local tour around the Glacier de Tsanfleuron at Les Diablerets. Les Diablerets used to open for summer skiing but after going bankrupt a couple of years ago they no longer bother. The tour takes in three cantons, the Vaud, the Valais and Bern. Luckily I’d picked a pretty much perfect day for it.
The route starts at the Col du Pillon where a two stage cable car takes you to the Sex Rouge above the glacier.

The snow on the glacier was quite soft which makes it hard work to walk over but otherwise it’s a safe route. On reaching the Quille du Diable itself (below) the route starts to head toward the cabane de Prarochet at 2550m.

This is quite interesting terrain to walk on, it’s never flat and involves a lot scrambling an the rocks, also without the painted markers route finding would be quite difficult. The cabane de Prarochet is built of the local stone so it blends in so well that you hardly see it until you’re a few hundred meters away.

Leaving the glacier behind the route drops to the col du Sanetsch above the Valais and from there to the Lac du Sanetsch.

From the Barrage du Sanetsch there’s on old gondola to return to the village of Gsteig in Bern.
