Zinal and Grimentz

Originally we’d planned to go to Grimentz on the bus but today was the first day the black Chamois piste was open this season. The Chamois starts from the Corne de Sorebois at 2896m and drops to the village of Mottec at 1580m, it’s possible to turn off the piste towards the bottom and ski into Grimentz though. So we took this route instead of the bus as it’s just a lot more fun.

As you drop from the Corne de Sorebois you pass the Pointe de Tsirouc which has great views back to the barrage at Moiry (2250m).

Above left looks over to the Cabane des Becs de Bossons while the right photograph has a view into a line I’ve not skied that can be accessed after a climb from Lac Lona below the Cabane. In fact, the couloirs below Lac Lona are skiable (left photo’) but need reasonable cover.

On the left some more skiing that can be accessed from near the Cabane des Becs de Bossons while the right photograph looks back towards the Pointe de Tsirouc.

On the left, still on the Chamois descent, it’s mostly pisted but probably not quite to the standard required by some skiers. On the right, a view from the Roc d’Orzival.

In Grimentz the black Lona was open which made an excellent return and a great end to the day.
