Col des Ignes (11th Jan. 2008)
16th January 2008
Plan “A” just didn’t work out, that was to go to the Cabane des Dix via the Pas des Chèvres which is something I’d wanted to do for a while. High winds made that pretty impractical so a plan was hatched to go into the Aiguille Rouges d’Arolla area towards the Col des Ignes and descend to the hamlet of La Gouille and get a bus back to Arolla. Even then it was pretty fierce in the wind in places and fairly cold.
The descent was pretty good though, some excellent pitches through good powder before hitting the ineivitable boiler plate at the bottom and being forced to kick turn through it for a while. All in all a good finish to a good week of skiing and touring, my main reason for going on the trip was that it’s the next valley to us in Zinal and I wanted to explore a little, there’s clearly a load more to do including some routes between the two valleys so I look forward to returning hopefully on skis!
