Zinal the slow way
19th January 2008
It’s a regular pastime around here to skin up to the Sorebois but until today something I’d not done, I decided it might make a change to give it a try. In general I’m not a huge fan of people skinning up the piste as it can be a bit dangerous, downhill skiers don’t really expect to come around a corner and meet someone making an ascent after all. But, the ascent to the Sorebois is reasonable, there’s a road that contours up in places and there’s good visibility for the sections you need to keep on the piste, higher up you can get off the piste and track up through the powder.
Some good views over to the Weisshorn and Bishorn, this is one of the reasons I decided to exercise the touring muscles actually, I’ve a few ascents lined up later in the season and the Bishorn is one of them so it pays to be in condition.
When I got to the Sorebois I took a few runs on the piste and rode the lifts a little before dropping into the Chamois descent to Grimentz, it’s the first time I’ve skied it this season and it was pretty good in places. The bus back was jammed packed though, in part due to the Chamois being open I suspect and also we’re on a low season reduced timetable so it’s infrequent.
