Dam powder

7th February 2008

Zinal, SwitzerlandAfter the snow earlier in the week and some poor visibility over the last few days this was the great chance to get a powder run down to the Moiry barrage. I’d expected to meet Mike on the first lift but I think he must have snuck onto one running before 0830 so I met him at the top around 0900 and we headed straight for the Sorebois so by 0930 we were dropping into the line and getting first tracks. A couple more people caught us up after I caught a rock and released a ski but we passed them again we had the lower section to ourselves making first tracks and crossing the barrage.

As we started to ski out from the barrage we were rewarded with some views of these Ibex, there were a group of about 10 in total most of which you can see here. They seem to be a mixed age group with some fairly young ones. They just casually stroll around these cliffs and are amazingly sure-footed.

    Hi Ian!
Nice looking weather down there! Looking to your photos, there seems to be quite good snow conditions. How much did it snow earlier this week?
We’re coming to Grimentz in the end of february and your blog is a good place to check what the conditions are, thanks for that!!
