Silvretta II – 23-25 April 2008
28th April 2008
After a couple of comfortable nights in the Jamtal we headed out for the Wiesbadener Hütte. Again this was a pretty comfortable hut with showers and good facilities. The plan from here was to skin up to the col below the Piz Buin and climb that.
Sadly, again the weather just wasn’t good, poor visibility and snow for most of the day. When we arrived at the col I have to say I was a bit lukewarm about climbing the Piz Buin but the consensus was to give it a go. This turned out pretty well, it’s a fairly easy climb but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’ve recently got some ultra-light crampons to avoid carrying my full-weight ones and I’ve a lightweight ice-axe but I’ve rarely climb with either of them so I was interested to try them. Piz Buin being an easy peak is ideal for that type of equipment really, it just wouldn’t be worth carrying anything heavier for that type of peak.

That was about the best view we had all day, just heading down from the summit of the Piz Buin the cloud cleared slightly although we didn’t get much of a panorama.
Next day was just a simple ski out to a nearby ski station, this involved crossing a frozen lake which was a flat slog over fairly featureless terrain before arriving at a roadhead where a local minubus transferred us to a nearby cable car to ride down to the green and damp valley below.
